Our culture loves to take in – but not give out…
When one starts with self, one will end with emptiness. When one starts with God, one will end with contentment.
People are taught to gain a bunch of stuff and protect their stuff because they ascribe value to it. “It’s mine, so you can’t have it.” This mindset is a set-up for emptiness.
“It is more blessed to give than to receive” was not a verse to make people feel guilty for not giving. It was a statement made by Jesus to demonstrate that it is a great blessing to give out what God has given you; whether your time, energy or resources.
I was so blessed being able to lead mission trips to Peru three times and to take a mission trip to Nicaragua and Mexico. These trips made me realize how blessed I was at home, and I realized how amazing it is to help those with next to nothing.
I don’t believe we can really truly identify with our needs being met, because our needs are met. It’s our wants that we try and satisfy…
God’s heart is to give out, not just take in.
You can truly give out with joy – when you start from the truth that you are ALREADY blessed!
Acts 20:35 says, “I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive. ’”
