I’ve never been in a fight my entire life except that one time my friend punched me in the face. In middle school, my friends and I were playing basketball during recess. There was an altercation between one of my best friends and I. The situation led to my friend walking up to me and punching me in the nose.
Two things happened as a result of this face punch. The first thing that happened was shock. I thought, “Did my friend seriously just punch me in the face over something so small and ridiculous?” The second thought that I had was, “That punch didn’t hurt at all because it was so weak.” It was such an awkward and unexpected situation I really didn’t know how to react!
Sometimes in life we face unexpected and awkward situations. Sometimes we have no clue how to react or what to do. I believe the best action we can take in these situations is to seek the Lord for wisdom (James 1:5).
When you are faced with unexpected conflicts, find comfort in the Lord (2 Corinthians 1:3-5). When awkwardness seems to bring insecurity, seek your Almighty God (1 Chronicles 16:11). When a situation causes shock, simply seek the Lord and find peace in Him and Him alone.
That friend in middle school who punched me in the face was the same friend to share the Gospel with me years later. Two years after he shared the gospel with me, I showed up at his house, he answered the door, and the first thing I said was, “I’m saved!” We rejoiced together and had some great fellowship. He has not punched me in the face since.
“With all my heart I have sought You; Do not let me wander from Your commandments.” – Psalm 119:10
