One of the best Christmas gifts I’ve ever received from my parents (besides a puppy) was a BB gun. In middle school I had just watched and fell in love with the movie ‘A Christmas Story.’ So naturally all I wanted for Christmas was a BB gun. I could care less about any other presents. I remember my Mom and Dad argued over whether I was old enough to have a BB gun or not. Mom said no, Dad said yes. So that Christmas morning I ripped open all my presents and there was no BB gun. I tried to act happy about all the gifts I received, but inside I was totally discouraged and disappointed.
All of a sudden my Dad asked me, “what’s that present over there in the corner?” I looked up and I saw a present leaning up against the wall. I walked over to the present and it had my name on it. My eyes lit up. My Dad said, “open it!” I ripped that thing open in 3 seconds and my disappointment turned into sheer delight! I had received the present I longed for, I was given the desire of my heart!
Sometimes, in our walks with the Lord, it may seem like we’re waiting forever for a God given promise to come to pass. In the waiting, we tend to become disappointed and discouraged. Yet, we have to remember that God’s timing is perfect! As we wait on God’s promise, God does powerful heart work on us. We can still have joy in those prolonged moments where we are waiting on God and relying on His timing. God works in the waiting. If God has given you a promise, know that it will come to pass in His perfect timing! Trust Him.
